2003

A DAY IN HISTORY - Saturday, 12 April, 2003......Umina Oval was closed for three games today due to local flooding.

History was created today at Umina Oval No.4 on Saturday 10th May, 2003 as Trent Buhagiar from Umina Under 5/1s went on a goal scoring rampage in his, and the teams first ever Local Derby against Southern/Ettalong.  It surely will be a game the youngster will never forget as the team went to oranges leading 8 - 0, with all goals coming from his lethal right boot.  Within a minute of the resumption, the blond curly hair of Trent could be seen inside the box of the opposition, again tormenting the Southern goalkeeper who will have nightmares well into his teenage years reliving the game (he had an excellent game saving many other shots)  Finally, the Referee blew his whistle for full time, and Trent had produced a Bakers Dozen.   The final score was Umina - 13  Southern/Ettalong - 1.  And no prize for guessing who scored Southern's goal ?  Yes, it was Trent !  Check the match reports on the website for more on this great win.  (Thanks Gary Chapple.)

                             TRENT BUHAGIAR

    AND HIS SPECIAL GROWLY FACE

Big winners for the weekend were the U6, Umina 3 team with a 13 nil game, a 9-0 win went to the 14Bs and a 9-1 win to the U5 Umina 1 team.  Good wins to the U8, Umina 2 and Umina 4 teams, AA1 and the 13D’s.  First Grade had a draw and a 2-1 win and Reserves were 3-2 up with a ‘DNF’ and a draw.  Of course the big game on the weekend was the Under 6’s going head to head in front of a 'sellout' crowd on Sunday.  Our First Grade half time entertainment package ‘stole the show’ with a final heart stopping score of 1-0 (I think).  The huge audience got to see why Trent Buhagiar is a now, a house hold word in soccer….remember a few weeks ago....Trent scored 14 goals in one game, 13 for us and 1 for the opposition.  Trent, was brought up from the Under 5’s especially for this game with a unofficial purchase price of one can of soft drink.  It wasn’t long before we saw this ‘tiny talented tiger’ go to work.  All in all, the munchkins had a great time as did the crowd, special thanks to Big Bazza (el presidenta) Cole for his blow by blow call of the game over his new PA system.  I think we have created a monster as he won’t share the microphone

Umina Under 6's before the battle!

Our canteen did huge business over the weekend and special thanks to Auntie Kerry and all the mums and dads who helped, huge effort folks.  Of special note was our WAA3 (first season together) team beating Berkeley 2 nil at Chittaway on Sunday morning.  Our ladies of the leather lace ups were running third in the comp when they beat BV who are running top of the ladder.  Well done ladies.

In the useless information department we had 59 scheduled games of which 22 were home games.  Finally, no games were cancelled due to field closures however, one game was abandoned, four games were byes, nine games were draws, we lost 21 games but won 20 games, two by forfeit.  We scored 126 goals for the weekend and had 93 goals scored against us. I have no info on 4 games at this time.
