FAREWELL RICK

Mr Rick Rand passed away in the early hours of yesterday morning at Brisbane Waters Private Hospital. For those who didn’t know Rick by name, he was that lovely elderly gentleman that came down to soccer every Saturday and some Sundays.  He loved the game for what it was.  His children all played at Umina for some time and after they left he continued to be a wonderful supporter of this club and a great friend to many of us.

Rick was a life member of Umina United Soccer Club.  He will be sadly missed at Umina and was one of our most staunch supporters.

Leon Lets Loose - from 'What The'    29 April, 2006

First Grade, look out, the up and coming player at the moment is a pint sized Leon Dransfield, from our 5/3 Yellow team.  Leon managed to score 17 goals on Saturday to take his team to a 21 nil win.  His brief career of 3 games in football has given him 37 goals now.  Truly a goalie’s nightmare!

Due to the overwhelming response to the Under 11 and Under 12 trials the CCF has released the following information

Thank you to all clubs and players who attended the Far North Metro branch selections on June 26th. In support of the overwhelming response, we have concluded that further selections need to be held in order to ensure that the selections reflect the best players to represent the Central Coast at the Branch Titles.

FAR METRO NORTH SELECTION

Umina's own Vicki Brown from the W14A and 14D team has been selected to represent the Central Coast in the U14 Girls Far Met North Team, well done Vicki.  It might be noted that ALL of the rest of the U14's Met North team came from Lightening.  In the true style of the Brown family of soccer players, Vicki's little sister, Tammy was selected to play in the U12 Girls Far North Metro team.

Junior Disco - Invaded by Superhero's!

The junior disco at Umina Primary School was invaded by super hero's, there were Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Spider kids, Socceroos (very appropriate), angels & devils, (ask their parents, they were are both devils).  Superman turned up plus numerous Darth Vaders/Anakin Skywaker (both good and bad versions), a crocodile, a few fairy princesses and a heap of other assorted THINGS?  Dress up was a great success and I think the kids had a great time.  Sorry if the kids were still hyped up at home mums.

UMINA WINS PREMIER LEAGUE FIRST GRADE GRAND FINAL

On Sunday 24th September our Umina Premier League First Grade team won their grand final in front of a huge crowd at Pluim Park.  This was a hard and closely fought game against Wyoming.

Going 2 all at full time and 3 all at the end of extra time our boys shone through to win the penalty shoot out 4-3.  Coach Lee Fullwood (fully) and Manager Chris Powell did a brilliant job with the troops this year leading the MPL1 First Grade competition from the middle of May, 2006 going through and becoming League Premiers.  Then going on to win the double and become Grand Finalists for 2006.  A huge success.  Full match report coming after they finish celebrating.

BARRY COLE'S MATCH REPORT:  The 1st Grade Final was played by the best 2 teams in the comp without doubt.  Both Umina and Wyoming had proved they were the best by coming in 1st and second during the year by some margin and both comp games between the 2 had been close during the season with a 1-0 win to Umina in the first round with a late minute winner by Greg Follett from a corner.  In the second round Umina were up 3-1 until Wyoming pounced to score 3 goals towards the end of the game and come away with a 3-4 win to Wyoming.  In the major semi Umina played without doubt the best soccer they had played all year and although Wyoming had some chances the 3-0 win by Umina was well deserved and the score could have been anything in the end.  All this lead up to the grand final made it one of the most looked forward game in a long time.  It started well for Umina with Matt Hieghway scoring from a low cross by Reece Lewin to take the lead and for the next 15 minutes Umina looked likely to score again until one of the highlights of the game and one of the gaols of the year was scored by Wyoming player Marc Falzon and the game was on it seesawed back and forth and ended 1-1 all at half time and probably a fair score at that stage.  In the second half Umina came out with purpose and pushed hard and took the lead with another low cross from Reece Lewin for Greg Follett to fire home the lead.  Umina had many chances to win the game but were unable to put away it's chances. With 8 mins to go Brad Lewis scored the equaliser to take the game into extra time.  With 2 mins gone in extra time Umina's dream looked in trouble when Keelen Austin scored Wyoming's 3rd goal and we only had 18 mins to get the game back and for the first time the Umina crowd were nervous.

However with 8 minutes remaining a fantastic goal from Jason Stafford again made the game even.  With the scores locked at 3-3 penalties were on.  We missed our first penalty and trouble was looming, however Wyoming missed 2 penalties ( 1 over, 1 hit the post ) it was left to Grant Brisbin to bring home the trophy.  And in what style the tall defender with the world on his shoulder placed an unstoppable kick to take the title.  The game was arguably the best club game ever seen and was a credit to both clubs, teams and coaches for the way the game was played and the friendly spirit of the game.  Best players for Wyoming were Marc Falzon and Brad Lewis ( The best I have personally ever seen both of them play) and for Umina ( Reece Lewin, Greg Follett and Andrew French were stand outs.  Thanks for the game from a spectators point of view fantastic effort by both team and shows the standard is getting better every year.

UMINA GRAND FINAL UPDATE

Winners are Grinners

At Pluim Park this weekend our 10F team with Chris Jones as coach, led the grade for the entire season which is a great effort but unfortunately lost 3 nil to Gwandalan. Steve Edmonds coaching the W16B were against it right from kick-off with gusty and very strong winds, 34 degree temperatures and Umina and Kincumber girls giving their all to win the grand final.   Jamie-Lee Rainbow put in Umina's equaliser to level the score at 1 all.  Kincumber came back about 5 minutes later with a shot that came from about 20 metres out and pushed on by the gusty winds to skip in over the goalies hands (Kim Webster).  Over heated players from both sides found the playing tough and Kincumber evidentially won 2-1 in a long hot and hard fought game.

The 15B's with Michael Murphy and Chad Wootton coaching played their grand final on Saturday night on Pluim Park 1 in another close finish of 3-2 to win over Terrigal.  Our 15B's lead their grade from the beginning of the season and became League Premiers and finally Grand Finalists, another great effort.

The proudest coach at Umina would be me (swampy) when my 16C team came from 6th place in the middle of the season to make the top four for the semi finals.  They won against Wyong in the minor semis, beat Kanwal in the Finals (who were League Premiers) and finally beat Terrigal in the Grand Final in an outstanding game on Pluim Park 3 on Saturday night.  The team shone from the start when Kareem Mohamed slammed in the first goal in 2 minutes and 20 seconds.  We gave away a penalty about 8 minutes in to go 1 all and Robbie Meulman put the winner away shortly afterwards all in the first half.  We spend the second half defending most of the time as Terrigal attacked wave after wave.  The score ended up a 2-1 win to Umina with huge smiles all around.  Special thanks to Steve Edmonds, Andrew Gunn and Paul Johnson who all did a great job helping to coach the team during the last few weeks due to my work commitments.  Huge hugs for our brilliant manager Karen Todd for a great job this year.
